The electrical certificate is valid for 2 years from date of issue (if the installation has not been amended).
- The Distribution Board is labelled correctly.
- The correct sized conductor links are used.
- The correct breaker size used in the Distribution Board.
- Sufficient breaker protection used.
- All breakers have their ratings visible.
- The earth leakage is in working order.
- The stove is cabled up correctly.
- The stove has an accessible isolator.
- All socket outlets, switches and light fittings are secured.
- All socket outlets, switches and light fittings are earthed.
- All socket outlets are in working order including the shutters.
- The satellite and TV antenna are earthed and bonded.
- The geyser water pipes are earthed and bonded.
- The geyser cover is secure and has a gland.
- The following portable appliances must be fitted with an isolator within 1.5m of the appliance: Geyser, gate motor, garage door motor, extractor fans, ceiling fans, air-con units, water feature, and any pump.
- The correct cable size and colour used for the various applications.
- An enclosed braai light is used.
- Light fittings being used are rated for the specific areas.
- That there is no exposed red and black house wire.
- No open joints or broken conduit.
- All conductive parts of the installation shall be earthed and bonded and be the same electrical potential as the supply authority earthing.
- Any point of a distribution board that has to be reached during normal operation shall not exceed a height of 2,2m above floor (walking) level. However, the board may be mounted higher if it can be disconnected from the supply be a switch-disconnector that is less than 2,2m above floor level.
- Where a fan or heater is included in a light fitting, the light fitting is regarded as a fixed appliance. If the light fitting circuit is protected by earth leakage, a disconnector is not required.
- Fixed appliances: The disconnecting device can be positioned in a distribution board (if the switch-disconnector is capable of being locked in the open position).

- Light bulbs.
- Appliances i.e. stove, garage door motor, gate motor, pool pump, etc. (From point of supply to point of consumption).
